Historic Cambridge Renovation - Project Series

Cambridge Project Video #2

Between Concept and Completion

Progress continues on our historic renovation of this home just outside of Harvard Square in Cambridge. We’ve been so impressed, once again, with the collaboration among our team - Timothy Burke Architecture and Heffernan Build and Remodel – to ensure that this project remains on schedule and on budget. It’s incredibly satisfying to see the results of months of design planning - from concept to completion - coming to fruition within the walls of this notable property.

At this phase in the process, you can see the construction crew is beginning to install cabinetry, millwork, and interior doors. We’ll review templates for stone countertops in the three custom kitchens and 12 custom baths in the coming weeks, including the various edge and backsplash details.  We’ll also check the specifics of the different marble surrounds for each fireplace, and of course, confirm that every finish on every custom piece is exactly as specified. Tile installation in all of these bathrooms begins soon, and you can bet that the Eleven Interiors team will be on-site to manage these details as well.

There are big rewards to paying close attention to all the small details. The team at Eleven Interiors is strongly committed to ensuring that the details of our designs are executed perfectly, as intended and expected.

The Start of Something Spectacular!

As a luxury residential interior design firm, we're sometimes called upon to collaborate with developers of boutique residential buildings. In 2019, a realtor familiar with our work introduced us to a new client who had recently purchased a historically significant home within walking distance of Harvard Square in Cambridge.

Over the years, the house had been subdivided into four apartments. The common staircases and hallways felt like a maze, and the interiors of the existing apartments were poorly laid out. We collaborated with architect Tim Burke and general contractor Heffernan Build & Remodel and proposed developing the building into three luxury condominiums. To maintain the property's historical significance, an elegant side entrance - essentially, a smaller version of the main entrance to the original home - was created to access the second and third-floor units. This allows the first-floor unit owner to feel like they are entering a single family home, because they alone have access to the original front porch and entry.

The interior details are too numerous to mention at this point…better to have the visuals to show you in conjunction with the written details. So, you'll need to follow along in our video series as we roll out the delights of this thoughtful and spectacular restoration! We'll be back again with more visuals to show you how this beauty progresses….
