Employee Spotlight - Madison Mitchell, Interior Designer

Madison’s career in Interior Design began while pursuing her Bachelor of Interior Architecture degree at Boston Architectural College. While a student, Madison worked as an intern at a prominent Interior Design firm in Boston as well as a commercial Interior Design firm in San Francisco. After receiving her degree, Madison made her way back to Boston to work as the interior designer for a classical architecture firm in Back Bay. In January 2019, Madison joined the design team at Eleven Interiors. While at Eleven, she has been involved in projects ranging from decoration of Boston condos, a decorative and minor construction renovation of a Gloucester beach house, and a full gut and renovation of a 3 condo building in Cambridge. Madison gains inspiration for her projects from her travels domestic and abroad, as well as pulling a lot of inspiration from the direct surroundings of the homes she designs. In her free time, Madison enjoys reading, visiting museums, exploring New England and spending time with family and friends.

As part of our Spotlight Series, we've asked each of our team members to answer questions so you can learn a bit more about them. Read below to learn more about Madison:

Where do you hail from?

I was born and raised in Austin, Texas. I attended Boston Architectural College to receive my Interior Architecture degree and loved Boston so much I decided to stay!

Was your path to interior design a direct one or did you arrive via detour?

My dad is a residential real estate developer in Austin, and I grew up visiting job sites with him and always being fascinated by the building process. In college, I was originally studying International Relations. After a year, I decided most of my passion in that degree choice was my love for travel and decided to change my degree. After changing my degree path, I transferred schools and had my heart set on the East Coast, having always loved New England from different vacations and road trips growing up.

One travel destination you have not been that you feel would provide great inspiration to you.

I have spent time traveling in southern European countries and studied abroad in Spain before my senior year of high school. However, I have not yet been to London or Paris, and I would love to be able to explore those cities with such historical and significant architecture and design presence!

Talk about a project that you love/loved working on and why.

For a year and a half, I have had the privilege of working for a client who bought a 3-condo home in Cambridge. We have been able to re-design the entire layout of the home and plan and design 3 new condo units for this building. It is so fun to be able to be a part of a design project from the very beginning planning stages, to selecting the materials and fixtures and seeing a property really come back to life. We are still in construction, but the progress made so far is very exciting and once completed it will be a gorgeous new home for 3 lucky families!

Beer, wine or cocktail?

Cocktail! Even through the past four months of staying at home during the pandemic, I have loved being able to continue supporting local businesses by trying out the many to-go cocktail kit offerings!
